Naughty By Nature
Most people think that it all started for Naughty By Nature in the summer of 1991 with O.P.P. But the group came together long before that.
Growing up in the same neighborhood, Treach, Vinnie and Kay Gee went to high school together and eventually teamed up for a talent contest before graduating. Originally called the New Style, they met with the usual resistance and roadblocks facing young hip hop artists. However, their big break came when they got under the Flavor Unit umbrella.
Since then, Naughty By Nature has recorded three album on the Tommy Boy label. Their albums, Naughty By Nature, 19 Naughty III and Poverty's Paradise all came on strong creating hip hop anthems where there were none. As a result, they have won numerous awards including an American Music Award for Best New Rap Group, A Source Award for New Artist of the Year in '91 and a Grammy for Best Rap Album in '96.
East Orange has inspired and nurtured all the members of Naughty By Nature and while Vinnie, Treach and Kay Gee come from limited means, they possess unlimited talent and drive. In addition to making music, the members of Naughty By Nature are making their vision of becoming community based business mogul's a reality. Treach, vinnie and Kay Gee are all using their individual talents to develop their businesses (i.e. Naughty Gear, Illtown Records and Illtown Films). Their individual bio's will elaborate.
